Data Privacy Day 2020 Marked by Technology Companies
January 28th was Data Privacy Day, marked by global tech companies including Facebook and Google. Users of Facebook received a message to check on their privacy settings when they accessed their account on the day, whilst Google identified seven ways they protect user data in a blog post.
European Gambling and Betting Association (EGBA) to Develop GDPR ‘Code of Conduct’
The EGBA have begun an industry-wide consultation with the aim of establishing a GDPR ‘Code of Conduct’ for gambling and betting organisations. It will provide sector-specific guidance, best practice and examples to enable these businesses to build a comprehensive GDPR compliance programme.
EU Start-Up Economy Suffers as a Result of the GDPR
According to research presented by the Data Catalyst Institute (DCI) reveals the negative effect that the GDPR has had in the European start-up economy. Key findings revealed a negative effect on investment into EU ventures, particularly into foreign investments, younger ventures and data-reliant firms.
Ad Industry Calls for Delay in CCPA Enforcement
Five major ad trade bodies have called on California’s attorney general to delay enforcement of the CCPA for six months to give companies more time to comply. They claim the ‘extraordinary complexity’ of the law and ‘wide range of open issues’ means there is not sufficient time to for many businesses to effectively implement their compliance programmes by the 1st of July 2020, when enforcement begins.
